Bossiaea heterophylla

Variable Bossiaea

Family: Fabaceae

Bossiaea heterophylla is one of the prettiest of the local pea shrubs. It is common in the Sydney region, thriving in dry sandy or rocky situations in heath and woodland.

It is able to do this because its stems, to 1m high, are flattened, and carry few leaves.

The leaves themselves are variable, but usually broader lower down the stem (5-25mm x 2-4mm). Some branches may have no leaves.

Flowers of Bossiaea heterophylla are brightly coloured yellow, orange and red.

Main flowering time is Spring.
