Caustis pentandra

Caustis pentandra is an erect sedge growing from a rhizome up to 2m tall in large dense clumps. It is common on sandy soils in heath and dry and open forests.

The leaves of Caustis pentandra are dark brown sheaths along the stem.

The flower spikelets cling to the stem in pairs and are about 15mm long

The name pentandra comes from Greek and means 5 stamens.

Caustis pentandra flowers mainly in April and May, but can also flower in Spring and Summer.
