Dianella caerulea
Blue Flax Lily
Family: Liliaceae
Dianella caerulea is a tufted grass, up to 50cm high. It is common in sandstone woodlands.
The leaves are 30-50cm long and about 20mm wide. They are hard, stiff and glossy. There are 2 varieties of Dianella caerulea. The most common, pictured here, is Dianella caerulea var. productum. It is a sprawling plant where the leaves branch from long stems, rather than tufting from the ground (Dianella caerulea var. caerulea).
The flowers are a rich blue (the meaning of caerulea in Latin) with yellow anthers.
Dianella caerulea flowers from September to November.
