Epacris microphylla is named for the size of its tiny leaves, 2-4mm, which are heart-shaped and pointed. They are held erect against the thin, wiry stem and sharply angular branches. The shrub grows to about 1m high, chiefly in damp rocky heath areas, but also open forests on sandy soils.

The white tubular flowers of Epacris microphylla are arranged very neatly along the upper sections of the branches, often hiding the leaves. Where the shrubs grow densely they create a snowy effect.
