Epacris purpurascens var. purpurascens

Epacris purpurascens var. purpurascens is an uncommon Epacris, very similar in appearance to the pink Woollsia pungens, but the flowers do not have the same 'crinkled' look. The shrub is stiff and erect, growing 1 - 1.5 m high in damp forest on sandstone.

The stiff, pointed leaves of Epacris purpurascens are 8 -12 mm long, with the base curving around the stem. They are closer together than a similar species, Epacris pulchella.

The pink flowers have a broad tube about 6 mm long spreading out to five lobes (petals). Each flower grows in the axil of a single leaf.

Epacris purpurascens var. purpurascens flowers in September and October.
