Grevillea speciosa

Red Spider Flower

Family: Proteaceae

Grevillea speciosa is a common shrub north of the harbour, found in heath and woodland on sandstone. It usually grows to about 1.5 m high, sometimes up to 2.5 m.

The stiff ovate or lanceolate leaves of Grevillea speciosa are less than 5cm long, with silvery hairs underneath.

The bright crimson red flowers are formed in loose circles on a conspicuous stalk, at the ends of branches or among the leaves. The name "speciosa" means "showy".

Grevillea speciosa flowers from June to September.
