Indigofera australis
Austral Indigo
Family: Fabaceae
Indigofera australia, a small lightly foliaged shrub of the pea family about 1.5 to 2 meters high. A common and widespread species in Australia, it is found in forests on clay soils. Leaves are pinnate, soft, dull dark rather greyish. Pink flowers in spring, can be seen flowering in August. It is an excellent habitat plant for wildlife. The flowers are a pollen and nectar source for many native insects, including bees and wasps.
Within Lane Cove NP, it tends to turn up on planted areas, there is some question as to whether or not it occurs naturally as most of the soils in the park are derived from sandstone.
