Persicaria lapathifolium is a weed-like annual herb growing normally in shallow water or wet places beside streams. It can be erect or slightly drooping, the hairless stems growing to about 1m or more.

The soft, lance-shaped leaves are 10-20 cm long, hairless, with short stalks.

The flowers are white, turning dull pink, in dense terminal spikes.

Persicaria lapathifolium (lapathifolia) normally flowers in December, January and February.
