Persoonia levis is a tall shrub up to 4m high. It is common in heath and woodland.

In woodland it is tall with large long sickle-shaped leaves to 20 cm. In open heath it is usually less than 1m high and the leaves are shorter and almost round.

The colour of the leaves is a very distinctive bright green and stands out amongst the usual grey-green of the bushland. The other distinctive feature of Persoonia levis is the dark papery bark, which peels in patches to reveal a blood-red colour underneath.

The golden yellow flowers are tubes of about 10mm, which curl back to look like petals. They occur singly near the ends of the branches.

The fruit is round, about 5mm across and astringent, especially when green.

Persoonia levis flowers mainly in September, October, November and December, but may have some flowers at other times.
