Pterostylis nutans

Nodding Greenhood

Family: Orchidaceae

Pterostylis nutans, a very common terrestrial orchid species, is often found in dense colonies in moist sheltered positions.

The leafless stem is usually 15-20 cm, up to 40cm. It arises from a basal rosette.

The (usually) single flower of Pterostylis nutans is translucent with green stripes and markings, 20-30 mm long. It is distinguished from similar species of Pterostylis by the flower being bent forward facing the ground.

Pterostylis nutans flowers from June - September.
