Thelymitra ixioides is a single-stalked ground orchid, flowering in Spring and opening on warm sunny days. It is found in open forest.

The flowers of Thelymitra ixioides, varying in number from 3 to 9, occur at the end of the stalk (raceme), which can grow to 60 cm high. They can also vary in colour, from pink or white to the more common bright blue, often with dark spots. A flower is about 16-22 mm long.

Thelymitra ixioides has a single narrow leaf 10mm wide and up to 20cm long.

Thelymitra ixioides flowers from August to October.
