Tricoryne simplex

Tricoryne simplex is a small herb, usually no more than 30cm high. The flowering stems are usually unbranched. It grows in grassland, woodland and open forest on sandstone.

The leaves are grass-like and slender and about the same height as the flower stem.

The flowers are terminal and can range from bright yellow to white. The flowers twist after flowering. Tricoryne simplex is very similar to another species in the park, Hypoxis hygrometrica. Tricoryne simplex has hair tufts on the anthers filaments, while Hypoxia has hairs 'sprinkled' on the leaves.

The name tricoryne refers to the fruit which is divided into three segments.

Flowering time is Spring - Summer.
