Xanthosia pilosa can sometimes be a small erect shrub, but more often is a straggling plant with branches less than 50cm. It grows commonly in sheltered woodland on dry sandy soil.

The hairy leaves of Xanthosia pilosa are usually up to 3 cm long, with 3-7 lobes. Leaf forms can vary widely.

Tiny greenish yellow flowers, surrounded by small pale petal-like bracts, grow in the leaf axils.

Xanthosia pilosa flowers from August to February.
